Infections and foot disorders

The major foot problems are:

  • Plantar warts are caused by the human papilloma virus (HVP)
  • Calluses and corns resulting from the thickening of the skin
  • Athlete’s foot caused by a fungus is usually found between the toes.
  • Ingrown nails caused by nail penetration into the skin
  • The nail fungal infection caused by a fungus
  • The onion of a deviation of the metatarsal bone of the big or little toe, diverting toes
  • The hammer toe, a deformation of the joint of the toe
  • Plantar fasciitis, an inflammation of the plantar fascia that causes pain in the heel and the arch of the foot
  • Flat feet, caused by subsidence of the plantar arch which can cause sore feet, knees, legs and lower back
  • Tendinitis is a painful condition of a tendon involving an inflammatory mechanism; it is a tendinopathy
  • The sprain (or strain) is an injury to the ligament (fibrous tissue band) which can result in severe pain

Consult your podiatrist, he is a specialist in foot and gait. It consists of podiatric medicine and has the expertise to treat you properly.

The podiatrist can treat most ailments of the foot, starting with debridement feet (manual / mechanical cleaning of the feet using suitable sterile instruments. Subsequently, it assesses the problem / condition to your feet and will the appropriate treatment.
The podiatrist can do surgery, prescribe the required medications, make biomechanical tests to assess your mobility, prescribe and do imaging tests, prescribe and fabricate custom foot orthotics.
